We arrived late afternoon and set up camp in the St. Mary's area on the east side of Glacier National Park.
Yikes...The dogs will have to stay on a short leash.
Here's our site...Aspen trees and mountains.
After a few walks around the campground loops, these two are taking it easy. They are not pleased about the lack of mobility.
We woke up to this beautiful view.
The dogs needed to run off leash, so we found this old church in the town of Babb for some play time.
Our morning drive took us to the area called Many Glaciers.
Beautiful!
Beware of cows in the road.
Back at our campsite for a lazy afternoon
Some biking
Some dog walking...lots of dog walking
Nightfall
Going to the Sun Road Tour
Due to the length limit of 21 feet for the Going to the Sun Road, we opted to take a Red Bus Tour. The fleet of 33 Red Buses has been in operation since 1936. They were built by the White Motor Company between 1936 and 1939 and are considered to be the oldest fleet of touring buses in the world. Originally built with wooden frames, they were restored in 2001 by Ford Motor. Metal frames, power steering, converted engines using gas and propane were added to the vehicles.
The Going to the Sun road is beautiful and awe inspiring with mountains and hairpin turns. It was nice to leave the driving to our Jammer Kenny.
Our Red Bus
Wild Goose Island
Beautiful wild flowers.
Here's Tom enjoying leaving the driving to Kenny!
Amazing sights at every turn
Here we are at the top of Logan Pass and the Continental Divide.
Beautiful mountain flower gardens growing in the near freezing temps.
Snow poles marking sidewalks...and a chance for a little pole dance
Kenny rolled back the canvas top for the ride down. Here we are enjoying a few snow flakes. Pendleton wool blankets were provided.
The above pictures do not do justice to the sights we saw today. What a great way to experience the Going to the Sun Road!
Back at camp...brrr...time for a fire!
Sunset
Tom and his grilling magic
Let me out!!
Some girls would rather sleep!
Sunday morning...Time to move on
But first, we have to stop and play ball with the dogs.
We stopped for coffee just outside the park gates and this was the view from the unit window. The rainbow must be a sign of safe travels ahead!
We followed Route 2 south and made a stop at the East Glacier Lodge. What an impressive lodge. This is the Grand Hotel of the Northwest. Look at those timbers!
Lush flower gardens
The main lobby
Tom and Billy Goat Gruff...hmmmm
Another stop at West Glacier and Lake McDonald
Time to head to somewhere in Idaho.
Location:Glacier National Park, MT
Wow, so beautiful! I'm jealous of your Continental Divide pic. Give those mutts hugs from me. Dad too! Stay away from the bears! I think Millie would make a nice snack for them.
